Fluency Linky Party

Jenna over at Speech Room News is hosting her monthly Love It & List It linky party and this month’s topic is fluency.  So, what are my go-to fluency products?  Let’s take a look…

  • Up first is my Fluency Survival Pack.  It really has EVERYTHING!!!  It’s got materials to target stuttering goals for children as young as preschool, all the way up to high school. Here’s a peek into all that’s included:-A fluency goal bank.
-A handout with tips for parents of young children who stutter.
    -Steps for smooth speech poster.
    -“Speech buddy” characters.
-TONS of worksheets: saying words slowly, saying sentences slowly, prolonging the first syllable of a word, compare/contrast pictures, identifying feelings associated with stuttering, a fluency fear hierarchy, personal fluency goals, speech strategies list, student fluency log (for tracking outside of the therapy room), therapist data collection sheet, identifying the location of constriction/tension, producing stop sounds with tense and relaxed musculature, producing fricatives with tense and relaxed musculature, practice with light articulatory contact, practice with cancellations, practice with pullouts, and conversation starters to work on fluency at the conversation level.
-A parent letter with listed techniques/strategies and space to write individualized recommendations.
-Descriptions of commonly used fluency enhancing strategies & fluency modification techniques.
-A fun fluency game to address self-awareness in young children who stutter (great for non-readers).

Please head over to my TpT store to download the product preview for a sample of all this packet has to offer.  If you’re reading this post on the day it goes up (2/28/14), then this product is still on sale until midnight!

  • Next up is The Source® for Stuttering and Cluttering -This book really walks you step by step through it’s outlined treatment program.  I like how it progresses in complexity and there are plenty of worksheets to practice strategies.  The thorough explanations of the various techniques and the assessment tools are also really helpful.

  • I also really like Snooky the Snail’s™ Preschool Fluency Worksheets – I like these because they keep things fun while still addressing fluency goals.  The fun character, Snooky the Snail (I’m assuming was developed pre-Jersey Shore), keeps the little ones interested.

  • Last up is Therapy for the Severe Older Adolescent and Adult Stutterer.  This is a free clinician resource from The Journal of Stuttering Therapy, Advocacy, and Research.  It discusses Van Riper’s approach in great, great detail.  I love how it really explores feelings and the emotional aspect of stuttering.  This resource would be appropriate for high school students you are working with.

I’m looking forward to reading what fluency products you all use in your speech room!
