A few weeks ago, my SLP blogger friends and I decided that it would be fun to do review each other’s products. Check them out, because each and every one of the products is fantastic and I can’t wait to use them all in therapy. So let’s take a look at the awesome product that I had the pleasure of reviewing.
I should start by saying that I am ALWAYS looking for some new and fun social skills activities. When I saw Dino-Mite Social Skills from Speechasaurus, I knew it would be a fun new addition to my SLP social skills bag of tricks!
The product contains a fun game to keep your kids engaged, while also working on problem solving skills. There are two ways to play the game- you can draw cards at random or you can use the cute dinosaur-themed game board. I’ve used the product both ways and the kids seem to love it either way!
One of the things I really love is how the cards are color coded by environment. Yellow cards are school scenarios, green cards are home scenarios, and blue cards are situations that happen in the community. If I see a student that needs more work in a specific area, I can manipulate the cards to address that.
The cards are full of practical situations and every day encounters that are very relevant to the kids that we work with. Since these scenarios are all integrated into a game, it makes working on problem skills easy and fun! The wild cards were a hit! My client was so excited to see which card he would draw next. He also was pretty pumped when he got to take a card away from me!
The game board is a nice addition because it allows you to switch things up after you’ve played the game the “regular way” a few times. It’s a sneaky way of using the same great material, but in a different way!
